Indeed job postings
Through the first quarter of 2023, Indeed job postings have continued to reflect the cooling labor market. As of April 7th, job postings are down 15% from the same time last year. However, demand for workers remains quite strong. As of April 7th, the Indeed Job Postings Index registered at 133, meaning job postings remain 33% above their pre-pandemic base line.
Healthcare job postings
While most segments of the labor market are slowing down, some healthcare categories have proved to be the exception. In particular, Physician & Surgeon postings have been flat over the past few months, but remain up 10% from the same time last year. Meanwhile, Pharmacy job postings have moved sideways over the past year, up just 0.4%, and Nursing job postings have shown some weakness, down 6.1%.
Therapy job postings are also on the rise, up 10.5% from the same time last year. This divergence in some healthcare categories from the overall labor market is not all too surprising as demand for healthcare workers typically holds up well during economic uncertainty. Demand for Personal Care & Home Health workers has held steady, with postings up just 0.5%.
Salary transparency
Recent Hiring Lab research found that more than 40% of US job postings on Indeed now include employer-provided salary information, an increase of 137% in the last three years. This increase is due in large part to the introduction of transparency legislation and the tight US labor market. Also, two of the occupations with the highest share of their job postings featuring a salary are healthcare fields, Personal Care & Home Health and Dental, which speaks to the importance of employers being upfront about pay in very competitive fields.
