Searches for Amazon, Walmart Surge Following Hiring Announcements

Job seekers react to news of increased hiring plans.

In an uncertain and quickly moving labor market, job seekers are trying to capitalize on news of big hiring announcements. Searches for both Amazon jobs and Walmart jobs spiked as a share of all searches on Indeed after the companies announced that they would be looking to hire more workers in the coming weeks.

The share of searches for Amazon quadrupled, while the share of searches for Walmart more than tripled. Searches have trailed off since the announcements, but remain elevated. Job seekers are already flocking to the opportunities they can find in a quickly deteriorating economy.
